Marrakech, Morocco

Rose city, spice routes, ancient medina

Africa meets Arabia meets Berber — all in a medina that hasn't changed its bones in 1,000 years.

Founded in 1070 by the Almoravid dynasty, Marrakech became the imperial capital of successive Berber and Arab dynasties for nearly a thousand years. Its medina — still essentially unchanged in layout — is one of the best-preserved medieval cities in the world.
