Wrangell is a small island town near the mouth of the Stikine River with a working harbor. Wrangell Airport and the state ferry provide access to the roadless community.
The area is the traditional home of the Tlingit people and later held Russian and British forts guarding the Stikine trade route. It is one of the oldest non-Native settlements in Alaska.
