Nubian ferry town on Lake Nasser's southern shore
A northern Sudanese town on the shore of Lake Nubia, the Sudanese portion of Lake Nasser. It is the terminus of the ferry link across the lake to Aswan in Egypt.
The original town was submerged when the Aswan High Dam created the reservoir in the 1960s, and residents were relocated. It remains a key border crossing point between Sudan and Egypt.
