Vlissingen (Flushing) is a port town in Zeeland on the Western Scheldt estuary, where large ocean ships pass close to shore. It has a working harbour, a boulevard and North Sea beaches.
A strategic naval and trading port from the 16th century, Vlissingen was long a gateway for shipping into Antwerp. It was heavily damaged during World War II.
