Vieux Fort sits at St. Lucia's southern tip and hosts Hewanorra International Airport (UVF), the island's main long-haul gateway, plus a commercial seaport. It looks out toward the Maria Islands nature reserve.
Named for an old French fort, the town was a sugar and later a WWII-era U.S. air-base site, which became the basis for Hewanorra Airport. It remains St. Lucia's second commercial center.
