Uturoa is the main town of Raiatea in the Leeward Islands of French Polynesia, served by Raiatea Airport and a harbor that acts as the regional ferry and cruise hub. It is the gateway to the shared Raiatea–Taha'a lagoon.
Raiatea is regarded as a cradle of Polynesian culture and religion, home to the great marae of Taputapuatea, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Uturoa developed as the administrative and trading center of the Leeward group.
