St. John's is the capital of Antigua and Barbuda, with the Heritage Quay and Redcliffe Quay cruise berths and V.C. Bird International Airport (ANU) to the northeast. It is the island's commercial heart.

Established as a British settlement in the 17th century, St. John's grew on sugar wealth and became the colonial capital. The twin-towered St. John's Cathedral, rebuilt in 1845, dominates its skyline.
