A small, densely settled island off the northern tip of Eleuthera, reached by a short ferry, with a working harbor of lobster boats. Brightly painted houses line quiet streets. It is one of the Bahamas' most productive fishing communities.
The island was reportedly named for Spanish ships that once drew fresh water from its wells. Settled by loyalists and Eleutheran descendants, it built a prosperous crawfish (spiny lobster) fishing fleet.
