Santo António, São Tomé and Príncipe

Tiny capital of remote Príncipe island

Santo António is the only town of any size on Príncipe and one of the smallest capitals in Africa. Príncipe Airport handles short flights from São Tomé, and a small harbor serves local boats.

The town was founded during the Portuguese cocoa-plantation era on the forested island. It remains the administrative center of the autonomous region of Príncipe.
