Golf-cart town on Ambergris Caye
San Pedro is the main town of Ambergris Caye, Belize's largest island, with San Pedro Airport (SPR) and a harbor served by water taxis. The Belize Barrier Reef lies just offshore.
Founded by mestizo refugees of the Caste War of Yucatán in the mid-19th century, the town began as a fishing village. Tourism and diving reshaped it from the late 20th century.
