Main town of Île Sainte-Marie
Ambodifotatra is the principal town of Île Sainte-Marie, a long narrow island off Madagascar's east coast. Sainte-Marie Airport at the island's south connects it to the mainland.
The island was a notorious pirate haven in the 17th and 18th centuries, and an old pirate cemetery survives nearby. It later became a French holding.
