A town in the Ecuadorian Amazon where the Coca River meets the Napo, with an airport and a river port. It is the main gateway for trips down the Napo into Yasuní National Park. Motorized canoes depart from its riverbank.
Commonly called Coca, the town grew with oil exploration in the Ecuadorian Amazon during the later 20th century. It is named after the Spanish explorer Francisco de Orellana, who descended the Napo and Amazon in the 16th century.
