A fjord hamlet at the gateway to Baffin Island wilderness
Pangnirtung is an Inuit hamlet on Baffin Island, set on a steep-sided fjord just below the Arctic Circle. Framed by dramatic mountains, 'Pang' is the gateway to Auyuittuq National Park and is well known for its printmaking and tapestry studio.
The community grew around a Hudson's Bay Company trading post and a whaling station, and later a mission and Arctic base. Its Uqqurmiut Centre for Arts and Crafts made Pangnirtung prints and woven tapestries known across the Canadian Arctic.
