A port city set beside the Marchica lagoon on the Mediterranean. Nador International Airport lies just outside town and the harbor handles fishing and ferry traffic toward the Spanish enclave of Melilla nearby.
Nador grew during the Spanish protectorate era as an administrative and mining outlet near Melilla. It expanded rapidly in the later 20th century into one of the region's main urban centers.
