Small Costa Maya beach town with a cruise pier
A small beach town on the southern Quintana Roo coast fronting the Mesoamerican Reef, with a cruise-ship pier just north of the village. Away from cruise days it is quiet, with a sandy malecón and dive shops. Chinchorro atoll trips leave from here.
Mahahual was a tiny fishing settlement until a cruise terminal opened in the early 2000s. Hurricane Dean struck in 2007, after which the town was rebuilt.
