A town at the northern end of Sabah, with a small airport and a harbor, close to the Tip of Borneo headland. It sits in the homeland of the Rungus people.
Kudat was briefly the first capital of British North Borneo in the 1880s before the seat moved to Sandakan. It has a long-established community of Chinese settlers and indigenous Rungus villages.
