Ittoqqortoormiit, Greenland

One of the most remote towns on Earth, population around 350

A tiny settlement on Greenland's east coast, accessible only by helicopter or a rare ship, surrounded by some of the largest fjord systems and the most active polar bear territory in the Northern Hemisphere.

Ittoqqortoormiit was founded in 1925 when 70 Inuit settlers relocated roughly 1,000 km from Greenland's west coast specifically to maintain Danish sovereignty claims over East Greenland's hunting grounds. The settlement has hovered around 300–450 residents ever since, sustained largely by hunting and fishing rather than the cash economy more common in western Greenland.
