The main town on Fukue Island, the largest of the Goto Islands off western Kyushu, with Fukue Airport and a ferry port to Nagasaki. The islands are scattered across the East China Sea.

The Goto Islands were a refuge for hidden Christians during Japan's long ban on the faith, and several churches there form part of a UNESCO World Heritage listing. Fukue grew around a former castle town.
