Sailing haven on Elizabeth Harbour
George Town is the main settlement of Great Exuma, served by Exuma International Airport (GGT) and the sheltered anchorage of Elizabeth Harbour. It is a well-known cruising-yacht destination.
Founded as a Loyalist settlement in the late 18th century, the town was named for King George III. Cotton plantations gave way to salt production and, later, tourism and yachting.
