Cox's Bazar is a coastal town in southeastern Bangladesh with its own airport and a sea port, famed for its very long unbroken sandy beach. It is Bangladesh's leading domestic beach destination.
The town is named after Captain Hiram Cox, a British East India Company officer stationed there in the late 18th century. It developed as a fishing port and later a tourism centre.
