Colombo, Sri Lanka

Ceylon tea, cinnamon coast, ancient temples

Sri Lanka fits more history, more wildlife, more beach, and more food culture into 65,000 km² than anywhere on earth.

Colombo has been a trading port for over 2,000 years, visited by Arab, Chinese, and Persian traders centuries before any European arrived. The Portuguese, Dutch, and finally the British each took turns controlling it from the 16th century onward, leaving layers of colonial architecture still visible today.
