Amazon river gateway of Ecuador
Coca, officially Puerto Francisco de Orellana, sits at the confluence of the Napo, Coca and Payamino rivers with a river port and Francisco de Orellana Airport. It is the launch point for Yasuní and lower-Napo river trips.
The town grew in the 20th century as an oil-industry and river-trade base in Ecuador's eastern Amazon. It is named for the conquistador who set out from the region to reach the Amazon River.
