Lakeside resort town on the shore of Issyk-Kul
Cholpon-Ata is the main resort town on the northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul, a large alpine lake. It has lake access for boats and a seasonal airport nearby.
The area holds ancient petroglyph fields left by Bronze Age and later peoples. In the Soviet era it developed as a lakeside holiday destination.
