Chiclayo is a major city on Peru's northern coast, served by Capitán FAP José Abelardo Quiñones González International Airport, with the port of Pimentel nearby. It is a base for visiting Moche and Sicán archaeological sites.
Growing from a modest colonial settlement, it became a commercial hub for the fertile Lambayeque valleys. Nearby lie the royal tombs of the Lord of Sipán, among Peru's richest pre-Columbian finds.
