Rebuilt Patagonian port beneath a volcano
A small port town on the northern Carretera Austral, gateway to Pumalín Park and ferry routes through the fjords. It has a harbour and an airfield.
Chaitén was heavily damaged when its nearby volcano erupted in 2008 and buried part of the town in ash. It has since been partly rebuilt on the same site.
