The capital of Ca Mau province at the far southern tip of Vietnam, laced with rivers and canals. It has a small airport and river port, and lies near the vast U Minh and Mui Ca Mau mangrove areas.
The region was settled relatively late, its mangrove forests and waterways shaping a fishing and shrimp-farming economy. Mui Ca Mau, the country's southernmost point, is a designated national park and biosphere reserve.
