Quiet island town on Sherbro's tidal channels
A small town on Sherbro Island in southern Sierra Leone, set among mangroves and tidal creeks reached mainly by boat. It has a harbour and a nearby airstrip, and retains weathered colonial-era buildings.
A nineteenth-century British colonial and missionary port, it once thrived on trade before silting and changing routes left it isolated. Its old churches and streets survive from that period.
