Jalisco lagoon town with a sheltered small-boat harbor
A small coastal town on the Costalegre of Jalisco, sitting on a sandbar between the open Pacific and a lagoon with a marina and fishing harbor. Water taxis cross the lagoon to Colimilla. It is a relaxed fishing and beach community.
In 1564 the Spanish expedition of Miguel López de Legazpi and Andrés de Urdaneta departed from this area toward the Philippines, establishing the Pacific galleon route. The town later settled into fishing and small-scale tourism.
