Flat coral island with airstrip and lagoon harbor
A low, sparsely populated coral island whose only village, Codrington, sits beside a large lagoon and is served by a small airstrip and boat landings. A vast frigatebird colony nests in the lagoon. Long pink-sand beaches fringe the coast.
Barbuda was leased in the 17th and 18th centuries to the English Codrington family, after whom the village is named. Land on the island has traditionally been held in common by Barbudans.
