Bangkok, Thailand

Street food, temples, controlled chaos

The city that never sleeps — pad kra pao at every corner and gold temples between skyscrapers.

Founded in 1782 as the new capital of Siam after the fall of Ayutthaya, Bangkok was built to recreate that lost royal city — its canals, temples, and palace all modeled on what came before. It's been the seat of the Chakri dynasty, unbroken, for over 240 years.
