A small Inuit hamlet of roughly 1,000 people tucked into a sheltered bay on northern Baffin Island, ringed by dramatic cliffs. Known in Inuktitut as Ikpiarjuk, 'the pocket,' it is among the northernmost settlements in Canada.
The region has supported Inuit hunting cultures for millennia. The modern community grew around a Hudson's Bay Company trading post established in the 1920s and remains strongly rooted in subsistence hunting.
