Alicante is a port city on Spain's Costa Blanca, on the Mediterranean coast of the Valencian Community. It has Alicante–Elche Airport and a port used by ferries, cruise ships and yachts.
Settled successively by Iberians, Romans and Moors, Alicante was taken by Castilian forces in the 13th century. The Santa Bárbara Castle on Mount Benacantil has overlooked the harbour since medieval times.
